As we tossed ideas around a concept began to emerge.

Wouldn't it be fascinating if we could travel some of the same routes used by First Nations people as they journeyed in their annual movements and in their trips to the Hudson's Bay Posts for trading purposes.

The map above was gleaned from the Hudson's Bay archives and a little searching proved that several of the posts were in the area that we were considering.

We overlayed this map with the location of the seven First Nations communities in the area and we could readily see out and back routes from each community to several trading posts.

Would it be possible to travel in a big circle so that we'd visit each of the seven communities?

How do we get permission to travel this land and to visit the communities?

What's our escape plan if everything goes wrong?
