These people and organizations were instrumental in our success

The people at Canadian Canoe Routes

Right from the start the folks at Canadian Canoe Routes were more than helpful.

From getting the web site setup to display our trip introduction and plans to hosting the discussions you couldn't ask for more
Once the discussion forums got started the project seemed to gain a life of its own.
People were enthusiastic to be part of our planning process as we shared ideas from across the realm of expedition trip planning.

In the end we were all richer for the experience.

Goldseekers Outfitting

We corresponded with several outfitters in Red Lake and I chatted with a couple of them before choosing Goldseekers.

Albert and I seemed to hit it off right away as I talked about our trip goals and he told me things about the park and his business principals.
As it turned out, Goldseekers was about to attend the Outdoor Adventure Show in Toronto so we agreed to meet before the show to exchange route planning information and we also agreed that Kathy and I would bring our planning materials to Goldseekers booth to share with the public.

We were amazed at the reception we got at the show from people who had heard about the trip through CCR or were participating in the discussions there.
At the end of the weekend we were exhausted and our voices were shot ... but we were sure that we had selected the right outfitter.
As the time for the trip drew closer we chatted more frequently about trip logistics and Albert put me in touch with Chimo Air Services.

From shuttle services to resupply logistics and our weekly check-in calls it couldn't have gone more smoothly ... and our trip wouldn't have been as carefree without the help of Goldseekers.

Chimo Air Services

Once again we struck it rich with Chimo Air.

From my first call to them they had that ... "We can make it happen" attitude.
Chimo went out of their way to see that our costs of having supplies delivered by air into the park were more than reesonable ... their pilots were courteous and helpful and the office staff was a pleasure to deal with.

All our resupplys came off without a hitch ... even when we changed the schedule for the last flight a few days before the flight was scheduled.
We were so impressed by Chimo that we used their service again for our 65 day trip.

If you are considering a longer trip in the Red Lake area be sure to contact Chimo for your flying needs ... you won't be disappointed..

Woodland Caribou Park Staff

Doug and Claire ... that's them sandwiched between us ... were enthusiastic supporters of our trip from the first time I chatted with Claire.

I had corresponded with Claire previously to get a park map so that I could transpose the portage information onto our topographical maps to begin the route planning process.
I chatted with Claire several times as the trip approached to update our knowledge of the park and the plans they had for portage clearing for that year. You see, the park is so big that all the portages cannot be examined every year so they depend on feedback from trippers like us to find trouble spots.
As we traveled the park we could see where the portage crew had been through recently ... and we were glad to witness the results of their work along the Dutch River ... it made that passage much easier than we were expecting.

One of the things they did in the park office was to outline our route on the park map with colored yarn and to post our location from day to day using our trip plan and news they got from Goldseekers on a weekly basis.
If time permits, Claire gets out into the park every summer for a little reconnaissance and R&R ... this permits her to stay on top of happenings and begin the planning process for the following year.

You couldn't ask for better people to represent the ideals of a wilderness park. Thanks again folks.
